Someone asked me if you could use AKAIO firmware with Moonshell 2/YSMenu combo instead of the official firmware - The answer is 'Yes' & this video is the proof

Since it's virtually the same thing as another video ( @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oW8P0jOkLY ) except the different firmware -I haven't bothered putting titles or music to it

UPDATE: There's been updates to Moonshell that prevent it running Commercial games - but theres also been 'workarounds'

One such package (for Acekards only) can be found @ http://gbatemp.net/t215395-moonshell-2-09-autobooting-on-ak2i.

  • Man, I can't seem to find good step-by-step instructions to get movies running on AKAIO...I know I have to put Moonshell in there, but really don't know where to start. Just wanna put movies on my kid's DS Lites.

  • @freestylenut : gbatemp.net has several forums with a lot of helpful tips & downloads etc.

However to put things simply - If you are going to use Moonshell you need to convert/re-encode the movies into DPG format.

If you download Moonshell's 'full' package you will find there's a PC program included called dpgenc.exe where you click-&-drag the movie onto it to encode to the proper format

Once converted you just need to copy the new file directly onto the memory card

  • does this work on akaio 1.6?

  • @Layzkie12 : No - Unfortunately the later Moonshell versions 'block' the running of either AKAIO or YSmenu. However there have been work around.

To make life easier - I actually made a 'package' that you just Unzip & copy over that has everything set up ready (Moonshell/Akaio1.6 - no YSMenu though, you don't need it)... I can't post weblinks in comments - So I'll add it to the Description

  • Is your dsi using the 1.4U firmware?

  • No - When I did the video I had 1.3E (European) installed.
