I'm doing a project where I need to diffuse the light from a number of LED's. Table tennis balls are great diffusers so I decided to use them in my project.

If I just drill a hole in the ball and inserted the LED into it the entire ball lights up and since only one half of it will be visible when viewed from the front there's a lot of light being wasted. By cutting the ball into halves I can mount the LED on the back panel and then just glue the ball halves onto it getting the LED closer to the ball and giving me a stronger light forwards.

I use the inner part of an empty adhesive tape roll as a jig to keep the ball from rolling when I push it into the wire.

The cuts are quite good, but I think they would be better if I increased the temperature of the wire a bit.
