A couple of harp guys workshopping a soul jazz classic. (Lee is teaching the song to Gussow in real time and working out the harmony part as he goes.)

  • Adam, you say this song is in G minor and you are playing a C harp. It sounds very third position type song to me so wouldn't that be an F harp? Just askin'

  • @fsoliver: I'm playing a C harp in a way that avoids the major third. I'm not playing an F harp. I'm flatting the 3 draw and I'm avoiding the 7 draw iin favor of the 6 overblow.

  • Hey Adam,

All your videos have really helped me along more than any book I've ever had. I've been working with this song on my C harp, and it just doesnt sound right. Maybe its because the two harps just make it sound different, but I'm not sure. For the intro i play 3b 3d 4d...3b 3d 4d 4b 3d 3b 3b 2d 2d. Is that basically right, or am I missing something. It would be great if you could lead me in the right direction. Thanks a lot.

  • I never use the 3b as a melody note, so get rid of it. I think you'll need to ask Jimileemusic--that's Jimi Lee himself--what we were doing.

  • Were the solos parts in the original song?

  • Heck no! This is our original interpretation of a non-harmonica song. It's Jimi's interpretation--he showed me the melody, then he figured out a harmony part.

  • Great stuff guys!

  • No way, you know Jimi Lee?! I have seen him a couple of times in Austin and he and I just recently started talking a bit. I am a harmonica player out of San Antonio and I get a lot of inspiration from your music Adam. I've never had formal lessons before in the 8 yrs I've been playing and I'm hoping I'll have the opportunity to learn some from him soon. Meeting you one day of course would be a great honor.

  • at first this put a smile on my face and then my reaction changed to serious appreciation for the music. inspiring. so that tune is a G minor jam and the key of the harp was WHAT?

  • 5th position, that means you start blowing on second hole making a G
