Dude you're right! I always wondered, when reading Dracula, how he was able to be out in the sunlight and it never occured to me that the sunlight rule never existed until years later. Nice one.
I have a question about Nosferatu. Was there an actual plague or were all deaths attributed solely to Orlock's bites? Knock gets news of "masses dying of plague" with strange marks on their necks" and knows this heralds Orlock's arrival. So were the masses ALL dying from plague or from being bitten?

And saying that it isnt true makes twilight look good and we cant have that can we?

The sunlight thing adds to the Vampire`s struggle and etc. It may not be true but it does not take away, only how it`s used. However this vid is true, Ive heard it before that true vampires are not killed by the sun.

Very cool. I watched Nosferatu (please forgive my spelling) and I was still taken by how beautifuly it was shot. And I either don't remember that slide about the rooster or I missed it. One to the next video :)

Very well made explanation! I'm not a big fan of vampires but I am a student of history and literature. I hate it when people claim the "sunlight rule" has been a part of the lore "for centuries." Also, as a pre-med student I wish people would look up the actual disease porphyria and realize its link to vampirism wasn't suggested until the 1980s and was due to misunderstandings of the signs and symptoms of the disease.

I'm pretty sure I just killed a few brain cells reading all of the previous comments.
While i agree with this idea, in Bram Stoker Dracula it is stated that he is weakened by sunlight and will eventually die, anyone turned by him is weaker then him, so they idea may still holdup

@jihnnyg Not true. In Dracula, he could go out in the sun just fine, and was seen out in the open in broad daylight around eight times if I recall correctly. He was limited during the day, but it had to do with his ability to shapeshift. He could only shapeshift at dawn, noon, dusk, and any time during the night. Some may think the "all night" condition is proof enough of the sun's influence, it's never explicitly stated, and it would be just as possible that the moon strengthens him instead.

Everyone who hates on Twilight is just being closed minded. Just because the legend stated things about vampires doesnt mean it can't change and represent different things over time. Noone said "This is how vampires should be, end of"
The real vampiric condition for example has slightly different symptoms to the original legend. That doesn't make a person any less of a vampire. The media has evolved and so has the image of vampires to suit it.

There is no real vampiric condition. Vampires do not exist. Nonetheless, while there is a line in the sand between vampires and sparkling pansy boys, bashing Twilight isn't the intention of this video. In fact, if you had bothered to watch it, you'd know that this video was primarily an attack on what's considered the greatest vampire film of all time.

Well I'll have to disagree with the video, because the vampire lore originated from the disease Porphyria/Porphyric Haemophilia, which is genetic and the sufferers have their skin protein altered in such a way that under sunlight it breaks down, which basically causes skin lesions.
BTW, I agree. Jiang Shi/Chiang shih are very interesting creatures. In fact I see them more as zombies than vampires.

Vampire lore originated from something called "death", actually. People didn't know a thing about the nature of decomposing corpses back then, so their superstitions got the best of them. Porphyria works as an explanation of sorts for the modern vampire, but in order to find the base vampire of myth, you have to remove the influences of modern media, including the sunlight weakness.
