Darlene Mayes, 73, isn't your typical old lady, nor is she your typical drug kingpin, but both terms have been used to describe this Oklahoma woman.
Police found 4 pounds of marijuana, a semiautomatic pistol, a revolver and $276,000 in cash when they raided her home this weekend. She explained the money was part of her retirement fund. What about the drugs and guns, Darlene?
The woman is believed to be the head of a network covering Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and, of course, Oklahoma. It is estimated that Mayes accounted for 40 percent of the marijuana sales in these areas.
If we've learned anything from Weeds and Breaking Bad, it's that the last person you'd expect to be a drug kingpin is usually the number one suspect.
