Long ago I used to make a buck or two writing essays for illiterate university students to help them obtain their degrees. Believe me, after dissecting The Castle a half dozen times you're ready for some Harold Robbins escapism. In my experience. the human imagination is quite capable of dealing with every thing from "The horror" to "Second star on the right and straight on till morning". I enjoyed the Carpetbaggers, film and novel, and 79 Park Ave., etc. Light, entertaining reading. They can't all be Kafka.
