MARCH of the PEOPLE...

was originally conceived of by University of Chicago graduate student of Humanities, Mario Peñalver, in the middle of April, 2007. While reviewing the news coverage of the rallies and marches staged on the 4th Anniversary of the Iraq War, Mr. Peñalver recalls feeling an overwhelming sense of disgust from the lack of acknowledgment these anti-war protests received from the Bush White House and the US Congress, both of whom continue to support/fund a war that was neither founded on just and honest premises, nor which is supported by the general conscience of the American People.




Thus was born the idea not just of a march, not just of a protest, but a reoriented action which includes all People everywhere, and which ultimately "faces the doors of the White House," where our messages of peace "matter most." Today this strategy has been employed by an 800-mile march from Chicago to DC, properly titled "March of the People," in which such personalities as Cindy Sheehan, David Kucinich and Medea Benjamin will be participating, culminating in a symbolic walk into Washington and national rally on September 11, 2007.
