I haven't dabbled in USD in my BTC adventures, and I've bought real stuff with them. I don't need USD because I get paid in BTC. I save quite a bit by doing it. BTC is essentially for e-commerce.  Paper money is good for drug deals and taxes and fueling your car, while BTC is good for buying things online quickly, easily, and effectively.

BTC won't replace paper money because of this. But BTC is NOT backed by fiat.

I do not trust anyone promoting bitcoins that are invested in it. There are millions of these bitcoins purchased for 1 cent. What happens when all these coins are cashed in for $200. Someone is being robbed. Those holding millions of bitcoins eventually want paper money. Because paper money is what you need to buy real stuff.
