OH I GET IT!! The reason is that since they are in Davy Jones Locker, which is the bottom of the ocean, that means they are essentially sailing upside down, so if they "sink" the ship, it will technically sink right back to the surface! Jack Sparrow you are a MAD GENIUS!

At first I couldn't understand what he was doing. Then there was a major 'OH!' in my head. 'Up is DOWN!' And I felt so exhilarated I wanted to rock the ship with jack.
