  • Stunning New Research: "Placement of a gastric band appears to be a disservice"

"The placement of a gastric band appears to be a disservice to many morbidly obese patients and therefore, in the current culture of evidence based medicine, the prevalent use of laparoscopic gastric banding can no longer be justified. " Dr. Guller from Toronto, Canada. Furthermore, they state: "There is mounting and convincing evidence that gastric banding is suboptimal at best. "

  • The band doesn't fail; the patient fails.. If the band slips it is almost always the patients fault from throwing up too much.

  • Mine has eroded after almost 3 years and 140 weight loss. Surgery is Friday.

  • I have dropped 124 lbs in 4 years.i am down to 178 now but I have just started having some pain i will go to my dr. for a flora-xray in the morning..

  • Nothing is 100% What I have found is that if you don't follow the program you will fail, and then there is medical error that can happen with anything. I had the lap-band in feb of this year and I've lost 96 pounds and it has been a fantastic tool! Somethings work for some people and some things don't. The other reason I've seen with the failed lap band is lack of education, you go out of country... you get what you pay for.

  • My husband wanted to get this done and now this video has convinced him NOT TO!

  • Lap band seems inherently dangerous. You have to eat less anyway -- only if you eat too much with a band, you get sick or die.

Why not just pay someone to punch you if you eat too much?

Better yet, only have salmon, oranges, blueberris, and beans in your house, and only eat at home?

  • DrR, I have no doubt the google numbers of failures are high - however as this is world-wide I was wondering on a regional level how common is this? I am booked for lap-band surgery and am researching every eventuality, just curious to know how common failure can be and what causes it. Does it have to be removed altogether when this happens? thks.
