How the hell can you have more people in jail than a dictatorship with over 1 billion people?US is a failure on so many levels. Can you even call US a developed country?Third world countries don't even have these jail rates.

This is Free-Dumb! We sent all the good jobs overseas. The military-security-prison industrial complex is all that's left for America now. That's why the TSA and multi-million dollar naked body scanners are in all the airports, and now showing up at Amtrak and subway stations. Each citizen they snatch up and put in the so-called criminal justice system means more $ for your loving rulers. And when they can pay prisoners 30 cents/hr that's even cheaper than outsourcing the labor to China!

@13flicto Walmart is a reflection of the sickness of our culture. If it is about sex or loving...its the work of the devil. On the other hand,guns, ammo, bomb making materials...anything that destroys life vs making life more bearable,.well that's what the people want.I come from japan,where you cannot buy a gun or sword anywhere.Japan is not perfect,people are people, but European nations have the same laws.US is fighting wars for profit and our citizens have no national health care. Values ?

@justcallmeassinine 8/hour, and U still can't live on that, kind of like...it takes 16.00/hour 2 live a very simple life, but U can only find jobs that offer 7-8/hour. I REFUSE 2 shop at Wal-O-Caust, Wal-mart, they sell glue U can sniff, rope, duct tape, guns, ammo, they sell it all! BUT, when it comes down 2 censoring, what I think falls under 'Freedom of Speech' 4 example, Nirvana & Green Day cd's, they draw the line there! I hate that store, closing all the mom and pop shops, which I prefer!

@13flicto Private prisons have gov't contracts and get paid per head.They also put inmates to work making jeans and other garments,there are telemarketing call centers,and God only knows what else they "outsource" to inmates making 30 cents an hour. The day is fast approaching when when prison trustees will be bused out  to fill retail shifts at Target,Wal-Mart,etc. You know,the minimum wage jobs that cannot be outsourced to the poor nations. Its coming,just wait.No need to pay $8 hour.
