From 1987 to 2009 four of the six secondary schools and five of the twelve primary schools on the plains of Marion, South Australia were closed due to changing demographics and the Education Department rationalising its services. To commemorate these schools in May 2011 Marion Historical Society mounted The Closed Schools of Marion exhibition. Over two afternoons of the exhibition I interviewed 17 people about their memories of these schools. Along with scanned photographs and artefacts the footage was edited into an hour long film, The Closed Schools of Marion. DVD's available from www.starkey.net.au Funded by History SA

  • I wish you could've been there too. I can still hear your name echoing in Erica's voice.

  • Fantastic!! Wish i had been at the premiere so i could 'reminisce' with the one and only "Erica Jolly". Ruthless old girl with a heart of gold. I will always remember her pelican poem. So many tears were flowing that day in assembly..... tears of laughter!!!
