Xbox 360 (Philips Lite-on Open Tray Error Permanent Fix 100%) (Please Read Description First )

Hi guys,

this is my first video so take it easy on me lol, here is a little help for you guys that have the philips liteon Dvd rom drive in your xbox 360. mine is dated 2009,

this fix i can guarantee you now works for the model of drive stated, however i can't guarantee the fix on earlier models of the drive as i dunno if the component layout inside the earlier models are the same as mine, but if you do have a philips liteon drive and is an earlier manufacturer date labled ontop of it and looks like the same inside to my one in the video then try the fix i'm explaining in video,

if you listen and do what i done to mines this fix is guaranteed to work 100% and is not temp fix, mabe i add in video i said use firm rubber piece to glue onto back plate and i state in my video i dunno why rubber is better, reason why i think a piece of rubber just over i millemetre think would be better, when the laser plastic guider hits it, it squashes it and when it moves away from it the rubber will form back to its normal size, as cardboard might wear down, but not sure on that one,

here is the steps explained to you to see if you have the same identical problem,

1. turn xbox on, (open disc appears)

2. eject disc then hold the power button on the xbox till console turns off and disc tray automaticly closes,

3, disconnect any leads you have connected to your xbox 360 on the back,

4. open xbox 360 up, (loads of videos on youtube on how to do this)

5, remove dvd rom drive from xbox and open it up, (again videos on youtube on how to do this)

6. once dvd rom drive is opened check to see if laser is furthest away from wheel that disc goes onto, if it is you have the same problem i had with mines,

7. gently move the laser back towards the wheel without touching the laser lense,

8. apply piece of rubber (USE SUPER GLUE) like mines in video (Not to soft though) and go by my measurements in video, just a little over a millemetre thick guys and about a millometre away from the rod and when you apply the fix move laser back and make sure the little white stump that is attached to the laser is hitting that rubber thats when you know you have a good measurement on how big the rubber piece should be, mines was about 1 centometre all the way round in square shape and again just over 1 millemetre in thickness,

9. when you have moved laser furthest away from wheel, reasemble the drive back up and connect the sata and the powerleads on back of the dvd rom drive and place the whole drive back into the xbox,

10, place the xbox back into the bottom of the housing and place on tbale and connect cabled back into the xbox/power lead/hdmi lead/

11. turn on xbox and press eject button you might need to use a pen to get the eject working or do it from the main menue on your xbox,

12. put game in, if it starts to read then you have done the fix properly, if not remove the rubber padding you applied and make sure you have followed 8 steps or listen closely to my video,

13. if all is fine put your xbox back together and you have fixed the open tray error permanently,


if you have any probs guys with this fix let me know and i will post another video for you with step by step instructions ok, but only if you find that your laser had the same prob with being at end possition,

Just did a similar fix, and it does work but I would recommend while u have it open, clean your laser off a bit while your at it as I did, & my Xbox is working great now.

@mitmaks i'm not sure if it would work mate, but it worked on the philips lite-on, you could always try and see if it would work

i havnt tried this yet but i am about too right after i finish this comment, but i am so hapy i have done everything else to it to fix it and then i watch this vid hoping for a new cause and holy crap the solution could be this frickin simple i have been working for days trying it all and oh crap if this works i will i dont know send u a virtual bro fist or something im gonna try this and when im done ill comment again with the results

there is two screws on the dvd laser you just keep adjusting left one till it reads thats wat i do i have done it on 3 xboxes lol buy them for 20 sell for 100

lol the weirdest thing happend to me, i bought an xbox used from friend for very cheap (the elite editoon) and the disc tray didnt work. so im like well, fuck. and then my father comes in the room and just preses the tray ooppen butten and it opens. when i pressed the button it didnt. lol my dad is my hero. :D so its fixed for now.

My Xbox used to not open either just when you press the eject button hit it where the chrome and the white finish meet that should work it works for me
