Your Host: Ruben Dobbs of Swampcandy

Ruben Dobbs will walk you through step by step in this instructional video on how to play the delta blues. Mr. Dobbs is an accomplished song writer and recording artist.

Ruben has been teaching guitar since age 17 and has been playing delta blues since age 13. In this video he uses his years of teaching experience to give you the tools to play traditional delta blues or to simply acquire new tools to improve yourself as a musician. Ruben takes you from entry level skills to advanced lessons on slide guitar and explains all in explicit detail.

Take an educational journey in to the music style that influenced THE WHITE STRIPES, ERIC CLAPTON, LED ZEPPLEN, THE BLACK KEYS and JIMI HENDRIX. This is the same music style played by ROBERT JOHNSON, SON HOUSE and BUKKA WHITE. This is the delta blues as taught by Ruben Dobbs.

  • its a little confusing, you never say that your in open d tuning, had to play a little with my guitar to find out, you should write it on top for those who dont have an ear.

  • @surrealisticlee Reminds me of Captain Beefheart!

  • @luckyhorsecinema just to set the record straight on this page:..... all of you should check out luckyhorsecinema he is actually fantastic. music is for sharing not comparing. enjoy!

  • @swampcandy yeah ok whatever, - maybe my comment was a little harsh. S'just this has got nothing to do with the way i aproach music making so i don't get it at all. For me a song is a spark, my ears are my teacher, and after that any technique comes about through necessity to express something i couldn't do before being the mother of invention - other than that i know sh*t about guitar playing / musical excellence in general, Sorry for any offence caused.

  • @luckyhorsecinema it's a lesson not a show. as the video progresses more advanced techniques are introduced. this is the first lesson out of many on the complete video. you'll have to let me check out your guitar lesson videos some time.... why i'll bet they are awesome just blazing right out of the gate i hope my tiny mind can comprehend you mind blowing chops!!!!

  • @SmilinTunes Definitely. He's in open D. That's why he says that one of the D chords is simply strumming the open strings. I just learned about open D tuning. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have had any idea of what he was talking about! Good point.

  • "I sold my soul to him so he'd learn me to play this here guitar. It was just my soul. I wasn't using it." :)
