How in heaven's name do they film that? She is still alive after the first 'chop'!! Amazing cinematography but a bit too real for my tastes I'm afraid.

I've been mostly desensitized to movie gore, but this one makes me downright nauseous. That fucking sound...

@HewieOfHG No, Alice Krige played Christabella.

that's so gross

@spartacus3ful: Yup. That's why they call it troubled times. Hard to judge who was right or wrong, because everyone had their heads screwed up by politics and culture of their times. Also hard to know, therefore if we could have done better if we were raised under such conditions, and knowing no other world but that. Makes me wonder what future generations will think of us when we're gone.

now thats what i love to watch lots of blood and cuts

Did you see the Glenda Jackson version made in 1970? Good Lord, talk about spin. Elizabeth carries on like a mourning banshee, accusing her advisors of ordering the execution without her knowledge. They would never have dared done such a thing, particularly since Mary was still regarded as an anointed monarch whose death could only be ordered by another monarch. In another episode, she berates the French for the Huguenot massacres when 4,000 Catholics died on HER orders!

@spartacus3ful I just love Liz I's phoney reaction to her cousin's murder, under her hand. So she allegedilly never signed the order for Mary's execution. Bollocks, she could only be secure with Mary dead. This film is "Damage Controll". The only thing that may have bothered her, was that maybe some day she could suffer the same fate. Therefore all of her 'Spin doctors".

Thank you! Hence, "Bloody Mary" vs. "Gloriana", or in a Russianized version, "Ivan the Terrible" vs. "Peter the Great", even though the latter slaughtered far more of his own people than Ivan, and willingly killed his own son as opposed to Ivan accidentally killing his in a fit of insanity (and becoming a recluse as a result).
I thought Mary spoke English...
