we would like to think that the "authorities" always get the bad guy and the official version is all nicde and tight with all the facts in the right places. but life is more complicated than we think. sometimes powerful alliances form and are able to do things outside the "law" and yet we nod and wink. the motel was a perfect ambush site and the guy arreated the perfect fall guy. no real connections and ray had to remain dependent on who paid him. for the people with the power -things happen.

James Earl Ray is innocent for a fact because they admitted it but just as someone said in one of these comments is"the CIA did it" and yes they most likely did because Martin had power,democracy,leadership,and resources and we all know that the CIA didn't want Martin to get in the way of their business and hired or theived some one to take the fall for what they did.
