VIA 49 at Kettles Road

P42DC locomotive # 919 pulls VIA 49 towards Smiths Falls, Ontario, on the way to Toronto. Kettles Road, Smiths Falls Subdivision.

Between this crossing and Richmond, Ontario (way off in the distance to the left), is the longest section of track free of level crossings in this subdivision.

On Sunday, August 16th 2009, Engine 902 caught fire while pulling a train to Ottawa. The train stopped partway into this section of track. The train was evacuated and many had to walk back though swampland to this very crossing to get transportation to Ottawa.

Engine 902 has been repaired and is back up in full service.
