A great little bit from bassist Ben Kenney showcasing his skills. The "crazy" guy with the lit hands is Brandon Boyd. Sounds not great though, I was pretty close to a speaker.

If anyone else out there has some clips of him, feel free to add them as a video response.

  • what song was this played during?

  • Shit, man. That was about two years ago. I tried figuring it out by listening to it a few times. My conclusion is that it might be Wish You Were Here.

  • This is actually the little jam part for Sick Sad Little World. :)

  • Thanks for clearing that up. My memory is crap.

  • wtf is up with that guy with the hand lights?

  • that's the lead singer. obviously, you don't read the little summaries that people supply to try and avoid answers such as this.

  • i dont give a fuck what anybody says i like ben better than dirk

  • Simply put, Ben plays to the band needs, Dirk's style was limiting. I've played bass for 10 years now and honestly as a member of a BAND, Ben fullfills the bassists role far better. I always got the impression Dirk played for himself- Slap Pop is a very limiting way of playing, it's funky, yes, it's fun to play, yes, but for most situations, it simply doesn't work. Too many bassists don't realise how unflexible it is, and how selfish ans self indulgent a way of playing it is... Ben works...

  • yeah, youd don't need to play SLAP and POP when u and youre band doing or composing a song, u have to be creative, by using ur fingers with out popping, everything can happen, u can make a good sound with out being like a wild man playing a bass

  • Every Ben Kenney video I see there is always a comparison to Dirk. Both of them are exceptional player's and I've loved all their work they've done on each album they've played on. So what if Ben doesn't slap? You don't hear people criticizing Cliff Burton for never slapping do you?

  • @AlexKalicinski dirk could play like that?

  • @AlexKalicinski I'm sure Ben Kenney can slap too =)

  • @itsinhiseyes1

Ben is good, he is doing his best and doing great with Incubus.

  • @AlexKalicinski, That's quite the argument...

  • Why would you ignore a vital technique for the bass?

    Cant just Ignore slap bass.

Its a whole percussive perspective to the instrument.

Btw Ben has been using slap bass since the end of 09.

You probably know by now but w.e.

  • Cant do much with slapbass ehy?

    watch?v=G7qjuv2iFnY

    Tell that to Tom Jenkinson.
