the 2009 comp wasn't redesigned from the 2008 as far as suspension setup. The 2008 was the first model year to have the vertical shock, redesigend from '07. look at the 2008 specialized archives.

my friend had a stumpjumper with a brain that allowed it to be a hardtail and when theres ruff terrain its a softail.

Sorry folks, but the selling argument for a Stumpjumper should be the long top tube - in case it fits the rider. This is their real unique selling proposition.
