@petersaligman Are you asking in terms of position on the instrument or in terms of musical intervals? In terms of intervals hes talking about 6ths which are inverted 3rds. for example if the melody goes C - D - E the 6th harmonization would be the E-F-G below taking into consideration the accidentals of the major or minor scale you are in.

raffadizzle they're actually diatonic sixths meaning they are either 8 or 9 half steps apart and they follow the key of the song.

A more accurate description is that you are playing Major sixth's, which, I believe, are intervals of 10 half steps.
