Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937, registration RA-85816, was a Tupolev Tu-154M passenger jet en route from Moscow, Russia, to Barcelona, Spain. DHL Flight 611, registration A9C-DHL, was a Boeing 757-23APF cargo jet flying from Bergamo, Italy, to Brussels, Belgium. The two aircraft collided in mid-air on 1 July 2002, at 21:35 (UTC) over the towns of Owingen and Überlingen in Germany, (near Lake Constance), killing all 71 aboard both aircraft. The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Investigation (BFU) determined on 19 May 2004, that the accident had been caused by problems within the air traffic control system and problems with the use of the collision warning system. On 24 February 2004, the controller who was on duty at the time, the Dane Peter Nielsen, was stabbed to death by Vitaly Kaloyev who had lost his wife and two children in the accident.

  • smartboy, you say some mistakes can't occur, but a "mistake" is something that you did not intend to do. Sometimes mistakes happen no matter how good you are. I don't know any professional, including nuclear plant operators, or surgeons, or even astronauts, where mistakes and accidents have not occurred. What you must know is that you are not a smart boy, rather you are an arrogant boy and you need to be a humble boy. This is your mistake. Also, your English sucks balls.

  • @TheRealdpb95 Oh, my bad, I thought you were referring to the flight redo itself..

  • @asdfghjklsaab I mean the actual intro beginning at 0:43 is dumb because it tries to panic you and tries to make it verryyy dramatic with those dumb lines and those short views of diffrent things layed over others and so on..

  • @TheRealdpb95 Those are the correct sounds that the TCAS system would play in such an event, and I'm sure the crew would have reacted in the same way. Do you think you would just sit there and stare blankly if you knew you were about to die? I think not.

  • @hongkongsmartboy Humans make errors, mistakes will always occur. If you think that its ok to kill man just because he made wrong desicion in impossible condition you are sick bastard.

  • @jamiesargant7295 Actually he wasnt really to be blamed from this accident, other controllers were taking a break when unexpected maintenance came, and that maintenance made it impossible for him to control it alone as he had to be in 2 screens same time, and also warning system didnt work and screens worked much slower.

Also TCAS told russian pilots to climb, and TCAS always has bigger priority than controller, so when controller tells you to descend and TCAS to climb, you must climb.

  • Well. The air traffic controller got stabbed to death beause of his his mistake, whcih. i know is wrong. but he took a guys wife and two kids away. i love my wife and daughters. and will do anything to keep them. if i lost them. i woul do the same. i feel sorry for the guy, but, this is one huge mistake

  • Its probably the worst intro Ive ever seen. Its trying to make you crazy with those stupid color lines and cockpit alert sounds. Kind of "dramatic"

    shit

  • typical cost cutting..

  • @hongkongsmartboy a saudumma depp bist !!!

  • @prophetoftru7h Its actually an example of why resolution advisories (such as TCAS) carry higher priority than ATC instructions.
