I offer Rosalind Ashford my belated condolence with the passing of her beloved brother Nick Ashford - of Ashford and Simpson fame. Best wishes to Valerie Simpson and their children. Ashford and Simpson wrote some of my favorite tunes and recorded several quality Lps.
Proberse: This version of 'Dancing in the street' is the best because the quality of the sound is superb. Berry Gordy, The Funk Brothers, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas collaborated to produce one of my all-time favorite dance tunes. The Black musical scene in America was slamming in the 60s with Motown leading the way - with James Brown & The Famous Flames bringing showmanship, Soul, and funky music to a level that will never be matched.
@will30078 "Great song written by Laura Nero I believe."
Not likely! Motown, when headquartered in Detroit, had there own competitive in-house assembly line of writers. The writers are listed below, Laura Nero came along years later to do a cover version but I don't believe she had anything to do with writing this or any other Martha Reeves' & the Vandellas hits.
