Unlikely to happen. Earth has a mass so it clears a path for itself when it goes through a field of astroids. What astroids do make it through burn up in our atmosphere.

@Outbreaker2007 to be exact the asteroid that wiped out the dinosours was 6 miles wide but still thats a microscopic piece of dust compared to earth

@blunc0 An astroid strike on that scale would superheat the atmosphere. Everything is basically being burned by the air.

Whenever I see that scene from knowing where NYC is incinerated, I always think, "Would I rather die quickly in America or slowly on the other side of the world like in India or China. They would be incinerated but in the graphics you can see water, air, and material being blown off the earth. That means the oceans would recede on the other side of the world and the air would be too thin to breath. Horrible either way.

@iZackeyblade - doesn't matter how small the asteriod is its the mass of the asteroid, you gotta remember that according to history the asteriod that wiped out the dinosaurs was only a mile wide that is small in comparison to the size of the earth :)
