Democracy pushed aside at the University of Toronto:
Clip made with the help of Neena Saloiya & music by Illogik
The suppression of student representation and climate of ableism on campus; a student rep is blocked for 1.5 hrs from addressing the UofT. In the past student reps could automatically speak at mtgs. Now they must request speaking rights, get tickets to go in or only if there are empty seats. If at the whim of the Chair reps are granted rights to speak, they are usually only given 3-5 minutes. Jeff Peters has frequently been interrupted in the middle of his address without adequate additional time needed to finish. Things are getting worse - now students face police lines and most recently criminal charges and threats of expulsion for presenting issues of access at the University of Toronto. This is unacceptable at a public university! More at www.fightfees.ca.
These "students" embarrass me: your left wing revolutionary antics put shame to the dignity of the majority of sane minded students at this university.
And don't claim to be representing students: voter turnout hasn't hit more than 20% for years. You get elected based on the votes of fringe extremists who still operate on 19th century ideologies of class conflict.

I'm glad to say that that opinion is growing, evidenced by the increasing protests against the effects of globalization, which was also a central theme in this protest... and I didn't even have to try.

That's just like, your opinion man.
I measure things in reality, nice try.

It's a lot easier to 'measure' things when your only metric is economic performance vs.(or at the cost of) social (dys)function. You'd enjoy reading Ayn Rand (writing in the 30s when the bulk of the western world still reveled in binaries).
To clarify, I work with my dad and respect him, the life he made, etc. but nice try.
When you get tired of republicanism, give geo-economic / geo-political discourses of control an overview... you'd be surprised at how many levels we are all being affected

I actually laughed reading your post, it's dripping with youth rebellion and mix in some "I hate my dad" syndrome.
You can't produce one tangible positive result of this protest, basically your metaphysics translated means "we got mad at the man"
I still can't get over the fact you feel you've made a difference when all you've done is discredited legitimate student movements.
I'm not sure if I should be writing this in caps do you can read it from your pedestal.

The protest accomplished at least one thing... it demonstrates intolerance towards structural socio-economic difference and how it persists (and is enforced) by the I-know-what's-mine middle-class camp. It must feel good to set social standards from your perch of privilege Coolins335.... kudos.

Did you show up shouting slogans, waving signs and behaving in a threatening manner? Yeah I'll bet you did.
Coolins335 2 years ago
wow those police sure looked like they were using "excessive force" /end sarcasm
The only group that looked out of control here was the protestors, your rights to "democracy" end when you try to take away the rights of others, such as blocking access to their place of work, or occupying it.
Your protest accomplishes NOTHING, it's self-serving and pointless.
Also way to bring race into the equation "all white administrators" when race had NOTHING to do with it.
You accomplished NOTHING
