Year of the Devil (2002) - Part 08

Meeting certain people can change our lives. It can be a meeting with a miracle, an angel, or an alcoholic. "Year of the Devil" is a film about such meetings.

Jan Holman, a cured alcoholic, comes to Czech Republic to film a documentary about a rehab centre for alcoholics. There he meets Jaromir Nohavica and his "guardian angel" Karel Plihal.

Karel Plihal organises a mock funeral for himself, which is accompanied by the music of a band called Czechomor. Their energy enchants Plihal, and he recommends them as an accompanying band to Nohavica.

Karel Holas, Czechomor's violinist, works as an "elevator music" in a hotel. There he meets the punker and Sydney opera orchestra dirigent Jaz Coleman, who offers him a world tour with symphonic orchestra.

Czechomor chooses to tour with Nohavica, and together with Jan Holman, who is now joining them, they hope to uncover the mystery of the legendary songwriters' songs. Instead they have to deal with the miracles they meet on the road.

"Year of the Devil" is a film for people who can hear melodies. (Part 08)

Much as I love the music of Killing Joke, it really has to be said that Jaz Coleman is a very pretentious bloke. He doesn't even get the quote from Genesis 6:8 correct!
