  • watching the performances of Laughton and Tallulah i realized how ahead of his time was Cooper.....

  • Beautiful print!

  • Very powerful closing scene with Laughton. Amazing; the entire film hangs together wonderfully in terms of the characters' motivations.

  • "Get your artificial lungs and fill it with oxygen." That's an authentic line that you'd never hear in a period piece version of 1932. It's intriguing to compare this with "Mutiny on the Bounty," in which Clark Gable played the role commensurate with Gary Cooper's here. Coincidentally, Cary Grant wanted to play the second lead in "Mutiny on the Bounty" as well but his studio would not release him and Franchot Tone played the part instead.

  • Laughton's performance is magnificent. Never seen anything quite like it. The young Bankhead was much more cinegenic than I ever realized, with an exquisite profile. This is a masterfully performed pre-Code adult picture with some of the very best actors ever recorded on film. And I didn't expect what Laughton's character did, I must admit that it blindsided me.

  • Bankhead had two of the best leading men in this one: Gary Cooper and Cary Grant, in the only film in which they worked together (they appeared separately in "Alice in Wonderland" around the same time). I cannot believe this is here, I've been dying to see it ever since I found out about it a few months ago. Next I'd love to see "Gambling Ship."

  • Loved The Movie, Have To Love Tallulah Bankhead Great Actress.
