New Expansion Project on Masjid Al Haram - Makkah Al-Mukarramah

The new project is envisioned to complete around the year 2020, with interim milestones that will be achieved from now until then.

According to The Architects Journal, Norman Foster (British architect) and Zaha Hadid (Iraqi architect) have been assigned to work on finalizing the architecture of the new mosque.

The new design of the mosque allows the Makkah Mosque to hold more than 3 million Muslim worshipers at a time.

The new design of the mosque will house other facilities around the area that include conference halls, residential buildings, command centers to control the flow of traffic, security and other services. The new infrastructure will continue to seek improvements over the current infrastructure by eventually making it extremely easy for pilgrims to get in and out of the Haram Mosque compound with fewer difficulties.

The picture above shows the newly proposed design. As can be seen, the multi-storey buildings are part of the new design. The next video shows the new design, while the video following the first video shows the haram mosque as it existed a few decades ago. The two videos show a stark difference between the two designs, clearly showing the enormous effort and capital that has been invested in the expansion of the Haram Mosque at Makkah.

Salam; El Hamdulillah, they decided to do away w/the mall like structures. And I repeat...Al Saud have done more for Mecca than any, maybe all of them put together, previous custodians of Mecca. And I am NOT Saudi. But I respect all they did for Islam. And we still aren't satisfied. I wish to extend my thanks to Al Saud; all the muslims in KSA, for preserving our holy site. And for the billions they have spent for the sake of Islam.
