Here is something older... a trip through the south side of Palm Bay. The clip starts going south on Interstate 95 before exiting on Malabar Road. First thing to note (although its not clear) is the old exit number system used on the Interstate (At least this one made sense, the Turnpike's scheme, I never could figure out) and the drastically underdeveloped northwest side (No restaurant or hotel like there is now). As we turn onto Malabar Road, it was only a two lane road at the time and was a noted traffic bottleneck. We make a turn onto San Filippo Drive, then onto Jupiter Blvd before arriving at my parent's place. Forgive the inane conversation at times... :)

  • It sure doesn't look like this now, lol. I have a vid driving down Minton and Palm Bay road in '87 when it was still 2 lanes and no plazas. Should convert it sometime. :)

  • @NESCartFan That would be cool to see... My family didn't venture in that vicinity often... I'm wondering if someone would have taped the old Eau Gallie Causeway from about the same time (My grandparents lived in Indialantic and I remember like it was yesterday taking the route from Palm Bay to their house across the causeways)... Actually, anything from back then would bring back great memories... :)

  • Wow it look so different now than before. More business stores, houses, roads, and more polices! Jeez.

  • I wonder how folks down there would react if they see a black 1961 plymouth fury cruise down US1? There are not very many 1961 plymouths left today thats thanks to Mr Rust.

You will see that car in the Minor Hill Christmas parade for 2011. The video is here on youtube

  • I remember the malabar exit # being 70 and CR512 being exit 69.

  • @omfgitsnia There is also a Mcdonalds at the corner of Minton and Malabar rd that 1 was walking distance from me. I would have my chicken mcnuggests french fries a chocolate shake then I would go for 1 of my long walks

  • @NESCartFan I remember it too. I used to work at the 711 at the corner of Minton and Malabar. I also worked at Minton and Palm Bay,the hollywood store , university, , Daisy , Pinewood, ,suntree and 1 of the vero beach stores, I would help out at these stores when they were shorthanded.

  • @sb57fury1 Still here, remember the 4 lane construction very well. We haven't gone anywhere. :)

  • @NESCartFan Minton Road is now a 4 lane highway. It has plazas now. I now live in Minor Hill, TN but I sure do miss Palm Bay, FL . I lived there for 25 years and did not want to leave. I hope someday my family decides to move back there . I am all for it.
