I have the 150,000 uF capacitor bank installed in the Fiero. For now it is just installed in the passenger seat. Later on it will be installed under the hood in the back. So far performance gains aren't really feel able, but I am seeing less amps in general being used. So I am typically averaging more mileage.

  • Yeah temporary I had them in the passenger seat. I do want them closer to the battery but because these lead acid batteries take up so much room, I don't have a lot of room to place parts. Once a different type of battery pack is put into the car, there will be plenty of room to try combinations. For bang for your buck LiFePo4 seems to be the best bet. It is capable of high C current draws and is a lot less weight. Probably the next battery pack I will probably go with lithiums.

  • Yes that was the purpose of the caps to smooth out the pulses from the controller to the electric motor. It is an electric car, thats why it has so many batteries. The caps don't have enough storage in them to power the car but for a second. Controller have small caps built into them but I wanted to add a larger bank of caps. I don't have them in the car, I have been working on other projects. I hope to have some newer videos soon.

  • These caps aren't super capacitors. They are just computer grade capacitors. So they have a whole lot less capacitance than super capacitors. They are wired parrallel to the batteries. I am mostly using these to steady out the pulses the controller does to the batteries. The caps sag with the battery voltage. I am just trying to find methods to make the batteries last longer.

  • fit in a 19 " rack and the you have two of these, i like it though

  • @ElectricFormula How big are those wires going to your caps? They don't look so big especially since you can close your door on them. Maybe if the wire were a little bigger you would see a 10 amp or more improvement in acceleration and maybe the bus bars connecting could be a bit bigger. I notice now that I went from my homemade controller with a large cap bank to a netgain with only 1000 uf the the amperage is significantly higher this may be because the amp limit is a bit higher though.

  • The capacitor bank is to far from the controller and battery to make an impact. For long therm better battery will be LiFePo4 .

Also ultra capacitors are less expensive and much smaller for the same capacity but much more complex to charge and discharge since they are low voltage you will need a lot of electronics.

  • you know what happends when they blow up? your e-car will be a meat-car.

  • i wanna see it working

  • LOL many of the people below think you are using these as Car Stereo Caps... I believe he uses the bank of batteries to smooth out the power spikes in his "electric Fiero"

  • umm i got a fe questions.

1 why do i cound 8 car batterries.. what do you need all those amps for?

2 why not just get a pair of nice capasitors at 1 or 1,5 farad each?

  • you may be surprised if your batteries do last longer, depending on the load they take by default. Only if they can put more caps like that in MP3 players, phones and portable game systems. LOL,
