PigBang is an activity for KS2-5 exploring the effects of friction, mass and vacuum in order to fire a pig as far and as accurately as possible. The Pig is a construction of card or other materials which fits inside a collection of standard plumbing tubes forming a bazooka. Power is supplied by using a domestic vacuum cleaner to draw the pig up the pipe and its inertia will propel it out the end

Equipment:
A single bazooka should cost about £10 to build and will last years. Parts come from any major DIY store, and the bazooka can be made with different sizes of tubing. The standard 40mm pipe version used here uses one or two standard vacuum upright or cylinder vacuum cleaners. Materials for making the pigs can be found or recycled objects, even manufactured items. One example here uses aluminium foil, tape and a marble
