http://www.wildirishswan.com - Irish Wildlife Photography And Videography by Paul Hughes. "Hunger (motivational State)" This scene was Filmed in Dublin City Ireland . The grey heron can be seen in Dublin city hunting along its rivers and waterways. The grey heron preys on young ducklings and birds during the hatching season. The heron looks for ducklings who stray from the protection of their mothers side. The heron will try to create panic among the ducklings and mallards to achieve this. To do this the heron makes repeated attacks at a safe distance from the mother. In this case the mother retreated to safety with the rest of her clutch losing one here to the heron, the mother had 9 ducklings in this years clutch and in the end managed to raise 5 of them to maturity the heron was among many that preyed on her young family. If you look closely at the point when the heron catches the duckling you will notice the other duckling diving under the water just behind the heron, it managed to escape, this time. It will catch all kinds of Fish and Rodents including Rats but will actively hunt young Birds. It will when it catches the young bird ( in this scene it is a Mallard Duckling) swallow the bird in its whole form. Filmed by Paul Hughes, in Dublin City Ireland. • Why bother fighting about something so controversal? This is simply nature in motion. Besides, you already knew what it would be about, since it's clearly stated in the title. Don't like the thought of it? Then leave. It's that simple.

Anyways, this is beautiful, in it's own morbid sort of way. It really makes you realize that there's a whole world out there, where it's either eat or be eaten. Really makes you thankful for the cozy lives we have.

  • @ThePineappleKiller Well said!

  • Very impressive video. I've spent hours watching herons camera in hand, and they do sod all! Well done.

  • @JimTLonW6 Thank you very much, as you know alot of time is given to capture unique events in the natural world.

  • @queenofowls101 You love birds? Newsflash: the Grey Heron is a bird. A bird trying to live like any other creature. It ain't a cannibal cause they're different species. That's like calling a lion a cannibal for eating a zebra just cause they're both mammals. The Heron eats the duckling alive cause it ain't got teeth. It can't help it. Just what is the point of killing one animal just to save another? Check out the video of a fox tormenting a rat to death; it's by the same uploader. Worse by far.

  • @EsqMax I did not say I didn't feel sorry for a helpless baby animal. I feel sorry for ANY creature caught by a predator. All I said was that people wouldn't complain if they saw a tiger eating a baby deer, cause everyone loves tigers. They also wouldn't complain if this heron was eating a baby grass snake. People are selective in which animals have a right to live. All animals need to eat to survive. End of. People are hypocritical morons.

  • this is fucking awsome

  • i would have shot that damn parot and saved the ducks lol. i hate that bird iam going to make it a goal to kill as many of those as i can.. in my mind.

  • @sistergoat People don't care how nature works; they just think cute and cuddly baby animals have more right to live than anything else. They wouldn't care if this heron ate a baby Grass Snake (not that you get wild snakes in Ireland, but you get the idea). I feel sorry for all creatures when they die, whether great or small.

  • @garethmichaelmurphy Yes, you're right. Apart from swans, I think Grey Herons are the biggest native birds in the UK; they're certainly the tallest!

  • I wish I could force people, who complain about animals being eaten by other animals, watch videos of it for countless hours so they can understand that this is how nature works.

  • Excellent video, beautifully captured. We have a lot of herons back home around Strangford Lough and I encountered a multitude in London. Very impressive creatures, would I be right in thinking they're the largest bird species in the British Isles (apart from maybe swans)?

  • Damn nature, you scary D:

  • dinosaur eating dinosaur.

  • Wow, I didn't know herons ate other birds

  • NOO!! Donald don't look!!!!
