Nvidia Nalu Demo (GeForce 6800)

Nalu [Hawaiian for wave], daughter of the deep sea, stops to admire a creature of the deep as it ascends towards the water's surface. The NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6800 GPUs deliver brute strength to render the soft shading of her long hair and the soft shadows on her skin.

Key Features:

1. Dense hair is simulated in real time and lit by a technique called "deep shadows" where the topmost hairs glow brightly from exposure to the light, while the lower hairs are darker.

2. Her skin is lit by the light refracted through the water's surface, her body and hair casting soft shadows on her as she swims.

3. Soft shafts of light filter down from the surface and are blocked by her silhouette using world-class, render-to-texture capabilities.

4. Her high-resolution skin transitions into a highly detailed scale shader that features the same soft shadowing as the skin, but adds a more noticeable bumpmap, iridescence, and bio-luminescence.

5. The final render pass (19 in all) provides a soft glow that allows the bright light on her hair and skin to bloom on the screen.

  • Not sure if you still pay attention to this video, but I am wondering how you got it to open up in fullscreen? There don't seem to be any resolution options when I run the demo.

  • "Shake that ass Miss Johnson!" =P

  • @jpopstargackt true but when i use the card features that the nvidia cards dont have it becomes about that lol.

  • @forsakenworlddragons man don't be such a gamer, its not only about your card features its most important about software optimizations for max (and correct use) of available hardware, really man this was an nvidia demo for geforce 6600 and 6800 series of year 2003 the first directx9.0c shader model 3.0 cards of the world

  • @draton22 its because its Shader model 3.0 and fx 5200 (neither any fx series) its not even a real 2.0 shader model card.

  • @tutaberi100 this was a demo for the geforce 6600 gpus, that run even in geforce 7300, its not a about hardware its about software programing and optimization, geforce 8800 gt can handle much more than this, by the way the hair physics its all by CPU, and the fastest cpu released at the time of this demo was an P4 3.o ghz who was a lot slower (less than half) than even an actual amd sempron 140 (1 core) at 2.7 ghz.

  • So the physx also grow up in the water simulation, which means that the cloth also reacts to any other thing that hits the hair, or the vin.

    Impressive.

  • With current rate of GPU evolution 100 more years should pass to have a real game with this level of graphics. I bet with two mermaids like this one in the scene fps will drop to unplayable.
