A pavane (pah-vahn) was a dance done by Englsh royal families four centuries ago. Listen to award winning composer Webster Young play his recent pavane, which was part of a ballet by Eric Hyrst of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens of Montreal. (The recording is at CDbaby.com under Webster Young and sheet music is at WebsterYoungLinks.com) Composers like William Byrd, of the late Renaissance in England, wrote "pavans". Webster Young's has a modal flavor and oriental phrases that makes his pavane unique. Young has published over forty piano works, and many are found at CDbaby.com and WebsterYoungLinks.com (copyright)
