Song: Dege Song
From Yadong's 亚东 album. བོད་གཞས .
Dege/ Derge (land of mercy) - The cultural center of Kham and the birthplace of King Gesar. The mesmerizing Yilhun Lhatso Lake is named appropriately after Drungmo (King Gesar's love) visits this site and falls in love with the beautiful scenery. In the background you can see the Dege Trola mountain. Troola Mountain (Queer Shan in Chinese) traverses from northwest to southeast in the Derge County. It covers an area of 7346 square kilometers. The highest peak (Rongmaiangzha in Chinese) soaring up to 6168m, is known as the peak that even the eagle cannot fly over. There are over 30 glaciers in theTrola Mountain area, among which the two glaciers stretching respectively along the valleys at the north side and the southeast side of the main peak join at the altitude 4300m and pour into the Yillhun Lhatso Lake. Axu grasslands streches in the Northern Derge is about 800sq km and believed to be the birthplace of King Gesar.
The Dege Parkang is one of the most important traditional cultural institutions of Tibet. Founded in 1729 by the most famous of the Kings of Dege, Denba Tsering , the Parkang is a living repository of Tibetan learning and culture: a printing house, temple, library and museum in one institution. Today, the Dege Parkang prints books and images from its collection of over 300,000 woodblocks. These include renowned full editions of the Buddhist Kangyur and Dengyur, commentaries and histories of Buddhist thought, royal histories of Dege, astrological, medical and musical texts. The Dege Parkang houses blocks for most of the works of classic Tibetan literature and all five schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Parkang also prints from its collection of over 500 "picture blocks" which include images of Buddhas, deities, mandala, and ritual prints.

  • ikhamo, King Gesar was Tibetan and spoke TIbetan. He INVADED China. He would be spinning in his grave if he knew that Tibet was invaded by China and that Tibetans are praising him in Chinese instead of the beautiful Tibetan language.

  • These artists are Chinese.

BTW, Tibetans sing in Chinese for the Chinese fans who love Tibetans and their culture.

How about being happy forTibetans who are multilingual and successful.

  • this is bullshit..King Gesar is from Kham Lingtsang,,,hence the name Gear of Ling or Ling Gesar..he's not DEGE!! get your fact strait.

  • you are entitled to your opinion without hostility.

people dont realize that dege was a vast, powerful kingdom and is the largest of khampa tribes.

both Tibetan and Han Chinese experts have generally agreed that the strongest claim as the birthplace of King Gesar is Axu town in the prairie of Dege County.

  • @ikhamo

DEGE is the kingdom of Ling. It grew at the expense of Ling. The present day Ling is called Lingtsang and is tiny. So the present day dege is the former Ling. The Lingtsang royal family is a descendent of the Ling family-or believed to be so at least. Dege also grew at the expense of Gonjo and other neighbouring states.

There are monuments and relics all over Dege harking back to Gesars time .The Dege Royal family trace their lineage direct to Gar Tongtsen, Songtsen Gampos minister

  • really beautiful place... and nice song even if I don't know chinese..

    thanks!

  • They are artists who love Tibetan and Tibetan culture and are praising King Gesar.... not stealing anything.

  • KIng Gesar would be spinning in his grave to hear people singing in Chinese, not TIbetan, about him. The Chinese occupation of Tibet is terrible. I wish there was a new King Gesar that could fight for TIbet.

  • Axu Grassland stretches in the northern Derge, covering 800sq km and is believed to be the birthplace of King Gesar.
