the introduction to a light-filled exhibit presenting 25 stained glass art works by 13 contemporary artists. Known as the McDonald Memorial Windows and destined for the Presidio Interfaith Chapel, these art works incorporate shards of stained glass from battle-torn sanctuaries collected by U.S. Army chaplain Frederick A. McDonald, along with his remembrances of each site. McDonald was General Omar Bradley's Protestant chaplain during the last 18 months of World War II. The windows, some three-dimensional, tell stories of loss and liberation, destruction and creation, memory and hope. These stories in light and are an example of the power of art to heal. Shattered fragments of sacred art have been revived and transformed into symbols of hope for our future.
