Catching Striper is tough between mid-June to mid-August. Spot will be in full force in a few weeks. But until Spot move in full force, croaker fishing can be the best option for a while.
My choice of croaker bait is salad shrimp. Salad shrimp is cooked and peeled. it is firm so it stays on the hook. Cooked shrimp is better than raw shrimp and squid for me for croaker fishing.

  • Great fishing! My family owns a house in Queens Landing (I think that's what it's called) and we fish right in our backyard.

I remember only catching 12 inch croaker one time in late May with my Dad from the shore. This was about 5-6 years ago. We haven't seen them since. What does it take for croakers that big to come inshore?

Saltier water? Just curious and thought I could ask you for some knowledge.

    Thanks!

I tested intensively about cooked shrimps for croakers.

Cooked shrimp is better for several reasons

1, It is cheap - I buy salad shrimp from Costo or local Grocery.

    2. user friendly - for alll age and sex because it is clean and doesn't smell and refrege-able in the any refrigerator with food

    3. it is firm - it stays long on the hook better than

    4. Buy a big bag and carry a few dozens for the trip

    5. Cooked shrimp works better than raw shrimp
