Yesterday, (Friday Oct 5th 2007), the Blue Angels were practicing for their Fleet Week performance over the weekend. The morning news indicated that the new Airbus 380 was going to take advantage of the No-Fly airspace and take promotional videos with the Golden Gate bridge and San Francisco skyline as a back drop.

Apparently the A380 has been purchased by some Asian airlines, (Not by any domestic carriers as of yet), and will begin using the San Francisco airport by the end of 2008. Depending on how the seating is configured, it can hold from 550 to 800 people and is 25% larger than a 747. The wingspan is approx. 100 yards - a football field! (These are specs that I remember from the news cast). Part of the A380 visit was to functional test the SF Airport International terminal...

  • @maryaria Thank you

  • Was there an aircraft shadowing the A380? If so what was it? F-16 or F-15

  • There was an aircraft following the Airbus. I suspect they were filming the plane for commercial purposes. I'm not sure what type of plane it was.

  • It flew around for a while huh? Cool Video!

  • Thank you. It flew for about 30 minutes to take promotional video with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. If you look closely, you will see a small chase plane behind the A380...

  • Kudos to Singapore Airlines for being the first to fly the A380 !

  • Only three airlines are using now the A380: QANTAS, Singapore Airlines and Emirates. Air France is next.

  • @asswhole239 knob.

  • That is NOT the BLUE ANGELS practicing at the start of the video. I do not know who it is, but it is NOT the FA-18's of the U.S. NAVY BLUE ANGELS. It looks like some sort of foreign built aircraft.
