From a pre-Show run-through the day of show (June 28, 2009) at our PreTeen Rock n' Roll Girl's Camp this summer. "Girls Rock/Keep Hope Alive" was originally composed by vocal instructor Melanie DeMore and Ysaye Barnwell (perhaps best know for her work with the a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock); Melanie added on the "girls rock" section to go with their body percussion exercise, which they worked on all week. This is followed by a segment in the IMA living room perhaps 6 hours later - after everyone had left - and the three main instructors (Melanie, Janelle Burdell, and June Millington) were having fun with a pair of electronic drumsticks (which were used earlier, in the show). This is a side of us the girls don't usually see, off-duty sot to speak and having fun ourselves - as when Camp is on, we have a lot to do!!
View of girls playing outside was taken earlier in the week, during a break; and intern Ally Lesser, who called us when she first came to Hampshire College and has been an invaluable help to us during Camps in the summers / during the school year, appears with the girls in the performance of "Girls Rock!".
Invest in the Future ~ donate to IMA. hanks for watching!
This was terrific! I know you're not a UU group, but Ysaye Barnwell is a UU, so I put it in my UU songs Playlist.
