This video shows the performance of scratch build F-22 Raptor parkjet (designed by Tomhe) with "tailerons only" setup. After the first flight with 3s2200mAh lipo pack, the thrust vectoring tabs were cut of during landing. I decided to see how the bird flies without them with 3s1000mAh lipo. See the video for results :)

  • What are the thrust vectoring tabs?

  • Taileron surfaces are extended towards the motor in the back of the plane. Check the link in the sidebar for pictures.

  • I love the low altitude loops! Looks like you were really getting good at the high apha near the end of the video too. Were the flight times much different between the two battery packs?

Seems like most planes / airframes have their ideal battery size and anything bigger you just pay for the extra weight by having to ad more throttle the whole time.

  • Why to fly loops at high altitude, when you can do them on low as well? ;) I think that the missing TV-tabs were hindering my high AoA efforts, as the wings started to rock quite easily.

I agree with you on the battery size, this plane just floats with 1000mAh battery and the flight time is very near the same as with 2200mAh.

  • ive tried a mini one with and without tabs and did not notice much change, one thing i like about the mini is it comes out of a loop at the same hight as it entered give or take 20cm so you can loop a foot of the ground and still clear the ground..just, and loops in a 2 foot diam circle, and to help with high alpha wing rock add some dummy missile rails they help a lot i use them a lot, i first added them for looks, but noticed they had a nice side effect of stoping (almost) wing rock
