what can be a problem? my hotspot shield icon is only red or yelow. it doesn't change the ip. what's wrong?

They say surfing the Internet with Hotspot will slow down your downloads. Loading time will take longer. Not sure if that's true or not, but if it's like proxies then that would be true. And no one likes slow downloads...
