Eric Nelson, Center for Veterinary Medicine
This presentation discusses FDA's recent strategic review, known as the Animal Feed Safety System Initiative. It provides information on FDA's early efforts to ensure feed safety for animals and people, with animal feed regulations designed to ensure safe drug use in feed, resulting in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations. Later regulations addressed Salmonella, mycotoxin, BSE, and melamine contamination of feed; and recent significant food borne human health issues are discussed. [vpanimalveterinary]
