Maybe the commentator ment Mother Love bone, since that was a band that everyone thought would break before their lead singer died from an OD and they recruted Vedder and formed Pearl Jam.

this is full of BS. nirvana wasn't influenced by metal, they hated it, and they weren't influenced by the grunge seattle scene except for mudhoney.
