This year on our trip to California we went to Avila beach, and with a lot of time to spare I decided that I wanted to attempt making a "lifesize" mermaid in the sand. It took me a really long time, and as the tide came in I had to stop sweating the details and finish. I would have loved to give her hair, and more detail on the fins and such, but I wasn't able to because of the tide. This is one of my favorite memories of going to California this year because I got so much possitive feedback from the beach goers that day, which isn't what I expected at all. This is my first attempt at sand sculpting, so I'm not posting this saying I'm all pro or whatever, haha. Enjoi.

The song is 40 oz to Freedom by Sublime. Awesome song, and no-- I don't own sublime or any of their music. The video doesn't feature the whole song so there shouldn't be a problem, I'd hope.

  • Do you think any of the publicity had to do with the fact that your ass-crack and camel-toe were hanging out the entire time?

  • I wasn't trying to get publicity. And honestly I know that my ass crack was hanging out, it's embarrassing.

  • that's neat! the sandy beach is your blank canvas. to create from nature is fabulous. hard work..but fun! thnx for posting.

  • Honestly it can be anyone's blank canvas! I'm creative and patient, but I didn't have any experience with it and a kid could do what he wants in the sand with an once of creativity and a lot of time. You should try it out sometime too!

  • well done. i can see how much pleasure your sculpture gave to the beach goers.

A little child could see it, and think it a real mermaid-

Soon the tide will be in, and the mermaid will return to the sea

  • Aww, thank you. That's sort of what my mom said.
