This is an experiment—I wanted to see if a high quality video encode looks all that much better than a mediocre video encode after YouTube gets done with it. (Since YouTube messes up the quality so much anyway, with excessive compression.)
The notations over the clips ("MPEG4" and "High Quality DV or uncompressed") refer to the source files used in the video. The MPEG4 files (which are similar to XivD/DivX) were encoded at medium quality (similar quality to what many fan vidders use). The "DV or uncompressed and de-noised" footage was just that—I encoded the source footage (DVD video) to the highest quality, and then ran the clip through a de-noiser, to smooth out some of the roughness.
I can see a difference, even on YouTube, but to be honest, it's not *that* drastic, because YouTube compresses so much detail out of video. But ... in the "HQ" version of YouTube, it's more noticeable, especially when viewed at fullscreen. And it DEFINITELY is really obvious in any downloadable versions of the video. (REALLY obvious!)

Clip is from the 1960's science fiction series, "The Invaders."
