After too many bad experiences dealing with customer service, animal cruelty, and high prices...I will never shop at Petsmart again.

Locally owned family pet shops and reputable online dealers is where I will do business from now on.

  • Compared to internet dealers, local fish stores, and friends they do have high prices. Poor service too.

  • Oh just poor customer service too often...being ignored...employees not knowing anything about fish. Prices are way too high also compared to internet sites and even the locally owned pet shops.

  • Really? My pet smart isn't that bad. Prices are a little high but besides that everything else is fine with me, my lfs is better but my petsmart isn't that bad.

  • Probably just depends upon who they hire I guess. I complained and got a free gift card :)

    Ordering online is so much easier for me anyways though. I just press a button and 4 days later theres my stuff on the doorstep. Its always cheaper too even with shipping, unless you buy only one $5 thing.

  • petsmart is all about the money.. behind the scene there is verbal abuse of the it's staff and they dono allow all staff memebers to take breaks. but they dock their time . they take advang of the staff because of thier love for pets and pay their staff that break their backs only min wage .. and chrg rates to high that most of them can not afford insurance for basic care. but their exec like bank exec make 6 fig of more in bonus. while main street suffers.

  • Since I'm seeing that the latest post was made about 8 months ago I have some good news for you. PetsMart about 6 months ago started a new program called the Ten/Ten rule. Greet customer within 10 feet within 10 seconds. We had percentages come up saying that in almost every Petsmart only about 15% of customers had associates ask them for help. A lot has changed recently.

  • I left moreso because the employees ignored me and I had to go to the cash register every time I needed help. The fact that half the fish were dead when I visited didn't help either (I only bought fish their once and they died). I agree though that it is expected that corporate retailers don't have all the knowledge of a local fish store or online shop.

  • Me and my friend were at a Petland or something like that a few days ago, and poor bunnies! Their ears were tattered and I saw a hamster trying to do it to another hamster. (and he succeded, and 2 hamsters were fighting over the girl, and no one would do anything about it...)

  • I AGREE! they have bad fish.

  • Well i order basically everything online, unless it is a small purchase (like you said) or if i'm buying new fish.
