@nagykukivalismegy actually, if the war didn't happen, a lot would have changed when franz ferdinand would become emperor
each nationality would have gotten their own government and the empire would have changed to a constitional parliamentary monarchy with elections similar to those in the usa, but well, the serbs wanted to rule all slavs and so WW1 began

The most tragic example is that of the Jewish people. In the empire Jews were direct subjects of the emperor so as to prevent violence against them. Jewish soldiers were among the most loyal douring the war. We know what happened later.......The empire wasnt all flowers and honey but to say the newly formed states were better is nonsense.

See this is a classic example of irony that goes with all "great" ideas. The war was shit, but lets put that aside for a moment. The Czech elites (some of them) believed we could do better on our own and so did many other national elites. The germans fell for the idea of great-germanism and so the whole nationalist mayhem has began. BUT the reality clearly showed how weak and ilegitimate the new republics were. The empire wasnt a bastion of freedom but neither were the new states.

In Hungary nobody sang the "Gott erhalte" anthem because it was in German language and the text is about the Emperor (Kaiser). Hungary was a Kingdom and the Austrian Emperors were Kings of Hungary. There was a Hungarian language variant of this song "God save our King" but Hungarians preferred to sing their own national anthem and only the music of this "emperor anthem" was sometimes played parallel with the national anthem.

you are right: all countries democratised in period 1815-1918, except the habsburg ruled austria-hungary.
that is why i wrote in my 1st comment: "they (the habsburgs) did not have any progressive act after 1815.
they were bad rulers. they did not develop their minds and thoughts. they thought that nothing would have to be changed. they were lazy rulers.
