The Assistant Fire Marshal says the firefighter is doing fine. He was treated for a minor burn and actually went back to work putting out the blaze.
Building 4 of the Cyprus Pointe apartments is unlivable.
Horrified tenants tried to console each other as fire ripped through their homes.
One tenant said: "The roof is collapsed on the top of my apartment."
Across the street parents rush to Step-by-Step Daycare to pick up their children. Fire officials say it was children who started the blaze.
"The juvenile was playing under the bush with fire, caught the bush on fire," said a Midland police officer.
The fire then traveled up the building and into the attic where it became fueled by wind.
Authorities caught two children, each not more than ten years old.
Assistant Fire Marshall David Hickman said: "Because they are under ten they can't be held accountable but still we're looking at other issues with them and we'll handle that situation."
One woman had dogs in her apartment; they escaped safely.
She said: "Some gentlemen kicked down the door and got the dogs out apparently."
As the fire roared on, reality began to sink in.
One tenant said: "I will lose everything my books everything that's in there."
Fire fighters stayed for hours and helped residents salvage what they could.
We're told the Red Cross is also helping the victims.
