This is a video response to logcabinlooms video "ALCAN INCORPORATED metal 12 gauge shotshells"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lytAc7oOBVA

This is a look at some old Alcan Metal 12 Gauge Shotshells, along with Alcan "Max-Fire" primers, and Alcan AL-5 and AL-8 smokeless shotgun powders. Alcan was purchased in it's later years by Smith & Wesson.

  • I think we had a Lee setup at that time, and I have a mec I use and I figure it should do the job. When I try them out I will put a video.

  • @logcabinlooms One caution with using the MEC sizing station - the machines are designed to "flare" the mouth of plastic and paper shells to allow wads to be easier to insert, you might have to alter the "knockout bushing" or get one a gauge or two smaller to prevent flaring. I'll have a look at my machine to see if it looks like it might be a problem.

  • @314299 Just had a look at my MEC 600 and there is no problem with running these shells in the sizing/decapping station. Since they are shorter than a regular shell (they are only 2-3/8" long) they do not go up far enough into the die to come in contact with the portion that flares the regular 2-34" long cases.

  • @cplbullet It should appear now as a response. Thanks.

  • @314299 Hey I have posted the video let me see if I can post it as a video response here.

  • @NragedXX Old guns and ammo do have a way of "holding" memories and associating them to people, places and events gone by.

  • @314299 Not sure bro, i remember my Grandfather having a stock pile of these for his side by side gauge, i was born in the early seventy's so yah i would assume that may be a correct timeline. You really brought back some awesome memories just by seeing these rounds so i am very grateful to you! Not to mention it was a great video as well!!!

  • @NragedXX Looks like they date from the early 1960's - does that sound about right to you?

  • @cplbullet That would be great to see, thanks!

  • @logcabinlooms I see that Dixie Gun Works, Buffalo Arms & Track of the Wolf all list 11 gauge wads so sourcing them seems to be no harder than getting any other fiber wad. As for sizing them I expect that as long as they fit your gun you would not need to size them, if they don't fit as is the sizing ring from a Lee Load All would do the trick, or the sizing station of a MEC 600 should do the job.
