Tablature and Jam Tracks for this lesson are available to download for free at http://www.activemelody.com - Just go to the "Guitar Lessons" section and look for the Robert Cray lesson.

This lesson is targeted at intermediate to advanced guitar players (although if you're a beginner you're more than welcome to join us!) I'll walk through several commonly used Robert Cray guitar licks and put them together into a mini guitar solo. I apologize if parts of this seem rushed - I'm limited to 10 minutes for these demos so I try and cram everything in that I can! Hit me with questions if you have them.

  • Hey bazookaman, that's a Fender Stratocaster, USA model circa 2007

  • Very nice! What strat are you playing on?

  • @maripocita37 Thanks - that's just a standard US Fender Stratocaster.

  • This was a real good lesson. Robert Cray is a good choice for a lesson idea. I've always liked Robert Cray. I saw him once live and was impressed. His guitar playing style is not extremely technical but it doesn't have to be for the types of blues songs he plays. But his guitar playing style sure is unique. I really like his style. He's got a real good voice, too. Yeah, he puts on a good show.

  • what type of guitar is that

  • what is that background music? phone booth?

  • excellent thank you!

  • You're a very good teacher.

  • thanks a lot, this lesson was helpful !

  • @Silencer84 (in regards to remembering all the positions) Since you already know them, a good thing would be to know where the root notes are in every shape. That way, not only you can start anywhere, but you also have a nice "landing pad" close by when you need one to finish off a lick or a run. You can google it "try pentatonic shapes and look for an image that has some spots bigger than the rest (they're usually the root notes.) Let me know when you have it or if you need anymore help.
