In some ways Mikko reminds me of Juha Kankkunen. Their driving styles have many similarities.

I have no words....

But it's natural that Mikko wanted to do _something_ after his presumably more controlled approach brought meagre results on days 1 and 2. He wanted to find some extra speed and nobody can blame him for it. I'm just commenting on what I see, and I'm trying to set that against the times and the developments in the course of the rally. The massive jump he took on the next stage also fits the bill for overdriving.

Okay, I'm not saying his rubbish and I do know my rallying from my F1; equally so with basic ideas about the handbrake use :) Ralling has been one of big interest for a score of years now. Not that it makes me an expert, but it's enough to be able to watch and analyse the driving. As I said, Mikko was overdriving, means: throwing the car all over the place, getting some entries into corners wrong and having to catch the tail drifting too much. Overdriving is not good, be it racing or rallying.

@barsorrro reasonin for the hand brake is to kick the rear end of the car out to get a straighter line coming out of the corner, as we all know cars go fastest in a straight line, right? as there isnt much room on the narrow stages it is totaly different to track racin and gettin the "perfect" line, track racing i'm sure u know what it is, we see it on F1, that a racin line yes, in track racin and im not trying to have a go just trying to educate :) his lines are fast just not fast enough to win

WRC, I'm just wondering, were Mikko's all GB onboard tapes affected with this (sound) glitch?
If not, could you upload some "normal" Hirvonen onboard?
-
Well, the time was somehow good--he won the stage, and quite convincingly though,... but to me it really looks as if he were overdriving there. I hate to be a couch critic and I realize that rallying is not racing and one can't expect the driver to hit the perfect line all the time (especially in those conditions), but Mikko obviously force-steers the car into corners, a few times missing the best approach and having to set the car up again. Lots of hand-brake action, even in mid-speed corners.

Oh please -- anything _but_ the bumper cam! I agree the incar shot is not perfect, though. Better than in Citroens anyway
My favourite is the view from the roof. A somewhat more forward mounted inside camera would be the best.
It's a pity that the recording got so botched.
